ADAPT A CAR Workshop

You can check the organization out at http://inclusioneers.org

What’s an ADAPT A CAR WORKSHOP?

In keeping with its mission to provide independence and mobility to individuals with developmental disabilities, Inclusioneers is sponsoring a special event hosted by Summit DD, to celebrate National Inclusion Month in March. Inspiration for this ride-on car workshop comes from the research of Dr. Cole Galloway, the founder of the nonprofit organization Go Baby Go.

Following the research of Dr. Galloway, PT, PhD in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Delaware, toy ride-on cars can be adapted to improve the odds for kids whose mental, social and emotional development is delayed, because of their physical inability to explore their environment. Check out his TEDMED talk “A Movement for Mobility.”
The Inclusioneers Adapt-A-Car Workshop program relies heavily on Dr. Galloway’s research that Ride-On cars can be modified to have a therapeutic value, providing mobility to children with mobility challenges, empowering them to be a part of the action at home, in the daycare or on the playground.
The Inclusion Day Event will highlight 7 cars that will be adapted to the specific benefit of children selected by Physical and Occupational Therapist serving Summit DD and Akron Children’s Hospital.
The ride-on cars for the Adapt-A-Car workshop event is the culmination of a collaboration between social service organizations (Summit DD), Inclusioneers (business mentor engineers and University of Akron student engineers), business sponsors (Bridgestone, Air Enterprises, The Innovation Garage, Spring Hills Golf Course, MW Mielke, NuMotion etc.) and Hoban High School student volunteers.
The event will be well attended and we anticipate attendees to include:
-Dr. Cole Galloway
-City government representatives
-Summit DD volunteers/representatives
-Business sponsor representatives (i.e. Bridgestone, Air Enterprises, The Innovation Garage, M.W. Mielke, Spring Hills Golf Course and NuMotion)
-Inclusioneers Board Members
-Ride-On car recipients and family members
-The University of Akron volunteers/representatives
-Akron Children’s Museum representatives
-Akron Children’s Hospital representatives
-Community Leaders
-Hoban HS volunteers/representatives
The Adapt-A-Car workshop event is a great example of community collaboration and the local support Akron and Summit County brings to people of all abilities.
So, please join us at the Adapt-A-Car workshop event on March 16th at 5pm, to show the leadership support for people of all abilities in Akron and Summit County.
